Lincoln Railway Society

Living in the MACLA catchment area I am sure you are well aware we are served by the National Rail network and that the future of our services looks good. Recent improvements to the Metheringham station car park have provided us with a very presentable station and concourse.

In our area we have some unique rail history with the 'Joint' Line still running through Metheringham and the concentration of railways through Lincoln itself where the geography of the land dictated the routes through the 'Lincolnshire Gap' ensured all the railways came together to pass through Lincoln at two locations on the High Street. Locally we have the history of the agricultural narrow gauge railways, which included the Nocton Estates light Railway, on which there was an article in MACLA Issue 42.

Lincoln Railway Society.
The Society meets every month at St Hugh's Church Hall, Harewood Crescent, North Hykeham. We have a respectable membership of over 70, including people from our local villages, and we meet each month for a presentation on a variety of railway topics (old and new), illustrated talks and slide shows with presenters from all over the country.
We have a subsidised trip to a Heritage Railway each summer and various self funded trips to railway installations throughout the year. Members frequently meet for photographic outing when specials run through our area or summer evenings which allow us to 'Get out more'! Members receive a monthly Journal and visit other Railway Societies in the East Midlands

If you are interested in any aspect of railways you may find our Society a refreshing way to meet like minded folk and pass a pleasant evening once a month. If you would like to see what we get up to, we would like to meet you.

If you are in a position to give railway orientated presentations we would also like to hear from you.

You are welcome to attend your first meeting without charge, as a taster.

For more information please contact the Lincoln Railway Society Secretary in Metheringham, Alan Cragg, on 01526 321494 or the Publicity Member, Graham Lightfoot, on 01522 705365
