Metheringham WI Update Summer 2011

WI membership goes from strength to strength. There are always visitors to welcome at the monthly meeting.

The February meeting was for members to talk/entertain about a subject they were interested in. The evening was opened by a 'Pam Ayres soundalike' - alias Jenni Honisett, reading some Pam Ayres well-known poems. Jean Simpson told us about her experiences nursing with the Princess Mary Royal Air Force Nursing Corps. Jayne Palmer tired herself, as well as us, with two action games. Sally Wilson spoke about the village celebrations for the Royal Wedding. Cynthia Dobbs concluded the evening with two funny poems about the WI.

The AGM was held at the March meeting and the committee was re-elected with Audrey Webb as President. Trophies were presented, reports read and thanks given for all the hard work over the year. The evening concluded with a fun, noisy game of Bag-Beetle where everybody is a winner. Rules!!:- Ask Audrey.

The April meeting was a talk plus slides by Gerry Burrows about the pottery designer Clarice Cliff. She was a talented artist whose bold designs and colours injected life into the depression years between the two world wars. Also in April there was the trip to the Theatre Royal to see a fun, but noisy production of Oklahoma.

On 16 May there was a Gift Wrapping demonstration by Jane Means. Also a discussion about the resolution to go forward to the Annual Conference.
1 Closure of Libraries.
2 Proposed Mega Farms - relevant to our area.

Future meeting:
Wed 15 June - A Fashion Show by Edinburgh Wool Shop.
Wed 20 July - Our outing to Skipton - plus a boat trip.
Wed 17 Aug - 'GBH and R' with Lynn Day. Only the speaker knows what it is about!

At every meeting there are the usual competitions, refreshments and a raffle. Details of quizzes, outings and demonstrations organized by the Federation. Most of all - friends and all are welcome.
