North Kesteven Social Strollers have added a new walk location to their schedule of weekly health walks. Taking place in Metheringham each week, visitors are being invited to come along.

The walk is FREE of charge - you will be required to complete a health questionnaire at the beginning of your first walk. Health walks are a great way of meeting new friends and socialising with members of your community. After each walk, tea and coffee will be served at the Library; costing just 50 pence per person.

It is ragwort time again.Ragwort contains toxins, which can have debilitating or fatal consequences if eaten by horses, ponies, donkeys and other grazing livestock.

Ragwort may need to be controlled when its presence and the likelihood of it spreading to neighbouring land poses a risk to horses and other grazing animals or land used for the production of forage.

Ragwort is one of five injurious specified weeds covered by the provisions of The Weeds Act 1959. Under the act the Secretary of State may serve an enforcement notice on the occupier of land on which injurious weeds are growing, requiring the occupier to take action to prevent the spread of the injurious weeds. The 2003 Ragwort Control Act led to the launch of the Code of Practice on How to Prevent the Spread of Ragwort 2004. By promoting good practice and good neighbourliness the code aims to reduce significantly the risk posed by ragwort poisoning to horses and other animals.

Cut and pulled flowering ragwort plants may still set seed and ragwort has a 70% seed germination rate. All parts of the ragwort plant remain toxic and harmful to animals when treated or wilted. To avoid seed dispersal ragwort should only be transported in sealed bags or enclosed containers

A Defra publication - Guidance on the disposal options for common ragwort. - is available to anyone not sure how to dispose of ragwort found growing on their land.

There will be a police surgery at InfoLinks on Friday 29th July 2011 between 10.00a.m. and 12 noon.

Minutes PL02/2011 of a Special Planning Committee Meeting held on Thursday 23rd June 2011 at 7.30pm in the Pavilion

PRESENT: Councillors N Dobbs (Chairman), Dr M Allen, P Ford, Mrs J Finegan, Mrs S Peek, P Saffin, J Money (District Councillor) and Ms S Wetherall (Clerk).

1. To resolve to accept Apologies for Absence and reasons given:
Apologies were received from District Councillor R Kendrick. The reasons were accepted.

2. Members Declarations of Interests:
Declarations of interest were made by the following Councillor:
Councillor Dr Allen declared a personal interest for agenda item 3 because he lives in Metheringham Fen.

3. To Consider Applications Received:
11/0576/FUL - proposal: Erection of a temporary (3 years) log cabin dwelling at Land adjacent to Fenside Farm, Fen Lane, Metheringham, Lincoln. The following objection was made: The proposed log cabin dwelling plan does not provide any details of the internal layout and this dwelling on the site is not considered appropriate for the proposed development. Members are extremely concerned that Metheringham Fen Lane is narrow and the proposed access to the site is dangerous as it is on a bend at the brow of a hill, the road is already in a poor condition and further traffic (cars and horseboxes) will only exacerbate the situation. There are also concerns about the health and safety of the horses and riders and general public using the road for the same reasons.

The applicant has indicated this is only the first stage of an ongoing development.

4. To Note Decisions Received:
None received.

There was no correspondence to note.

6. Date, time and venue of next meeting:
Wednesday 13th July 2011 at 7.30pm at the Pavilion.
