Blankney Cricket Club Review Winter 2011

Although the cricket season has now well and truly finished for 2011 preparations have already started behind the scenes for next year. David Pearse together with others has been working hard on the ground while the weather conditions are right to ensure that the square will be in tip top condition for the new season.

Soon the leagues we enter will be having their AGMs which all have to be attended by representatives from the club.

2011 was a successful season for the club. The Saturday XI under the leadership of Ian Holvey finished top of their division in the South Lincs and Border League, thereby guaranteeing them promotion to the next level where no doubt the games will be that bit more difficult but we are up for the challenge!

The young Sunday XI captained by Cameron Donald maintained their status in Division One of the McKinnells Lincoln League with some very good results in the latter part of the season.

The presentation of the trophies for the 2011 season will take place in the New Year and are as follows:

Sat XI
Top Bowler - Mark Evans
Top Batsman - David Thomas
Players Player of Season - David Thomas
Catch of Season - Ian Holvey against Burgh le Marsh

Sun XI
Top Bowler - Gareth Schwandt
Top Batsman - Cameron Donald
Players Player of Season - Gareth Schwandt
Catch of Season - Andrew Foster against Boston
Young Player of Season - Ben Hargrave

In addition to this David Thomas was also the top batsman in Div. 3 of The South Lincs and Borders League with a total of 541 runs scored having made a highest score of 148 not out.

I would also like to thank all the youngsters within the club whose contributions both on and off the field has been immense this year, it is appreciated by the more mature members and you are the future of this cricket club.

The club will be starting pre-season nets indoors in the New Year followed by regular outdoor nets as the weather improves.

The club welcomes new members and anyone wishing to join us should contact the secretary.

We are still looking for a scorer for both teams so if you are a retired player or someone who just wants to get involved again with a cricket club please come and join us - the pay is poor (non-existent) but you do get a free tea every game and I'm sure the captains will put their hands in their pockets to buy a drink!

The club also has a website www.blankneycc.com
