Metheringham Parish Council News Winter 2011

Bus Shelter
The Parish Council, Highways, Footpaths and Car parks working group have been in consultation with Lincolnshire County Council (LCC) Highways and the Lincolnshire Co-operative food store to install a bus shelter on the High Street. The Parish Council have been accepted to be part of the LCC bus shelter grant scheme. A site visit has taken place and quotations are being obtained. The proposals will then be presented to council for approval. When these are approved the bus shelter will be installed.

Christmas Celebrations
This year the Parish Council have appointed a working group to organize the Christmas Celebrations. The Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony and carol service will take place on Sunday 4 December at 4.00pm at the War Memorial Garden, Metheringham. The working group have been extremely busy inviting Santa to the celebrations and arranging refreshments. So come along and join in the celebrations.

Recreation fields
The Parish Council has produced a final heads of terms document relating to the lease of the Star & Garter field for use by Metheringham Primary School, which was sent to LCC for approval. Unfortunately the documents have not been approved by LCC, therefore a further meeting is to be arranged.

Fayre and Feast
This year's Fayre and Feast took place on Saturday 22 October. The event is organized and run by volunteers. A tremendous amount of time and effort is put into this event throughout the year. The atmosphere at the Feast was excellent with all having a good time. The prize for the Best Dressed Stall went to the Co-op with the Best Dressed Business, Emilys.

The Parish Council would like to thank the following for making the event go smoothly; Lincolnshire Police Community Beat Team; Lincolnshire County Council, North Kesteven District Council, Village Volunteers, Branston Limited (for the loan of the trailer) and Mowgli Indian Restaurant for all their support. If you would like to be part of the working group please contact the Clerk. We are always looking for volunteers to help on the day, if you can spare a couple of hours, again please contact the Clerk.

Litter and Anti-Social Behaviour
During the summer the Parish Council encountered a major problem of littering on the playing fields, Prince's Street. A new large capacity litter bin has been installed on the playing field near to the MUGA. If you or your children use this area, please remember to use the bins. The anti-social behaviour in Prince's Street car park and the High Street continues to be a problem. The Parish Council are continuing to work with the Police and local authorities to try and alleviate the problems in this area.

Parish Council Vacancy
Unfortunately one of the newly elected members, Councillor Mrs Pembery, has resigned due to other commitments. I would like to thank Mrs Pembery for her help and support during her short time in the position. The Parish Council therefore has a vacancy for a new member. If you are interested in becoming a Councillor, please contact the Clerk for further information.

Village Notice boards
The parish council have two notice boards in the village. The first is in the War Memorial garden, High Street, this covers the activities of the Parish Council. The second is outside the Post Office, High Street. This is for the voluntary village organizations. If you have an item you would like to display please contact Mrs Margaret Kristen Tel: 01526 322169.

Remembrance Day Service
This year's service took place on Sunday 13 November at the Methodist Church, Metheringham, the Act of Remembrance was held at the War Memorial Garden, High Street, followed by a short prayer at the war graves in the new cemetery. Thank you to Reverend Martin Amery for the excellent and meaningful service and all those many people present who paid their respects to the fallen.

Emergency Snow Plan
During the adverse weather conditions in 2010/2011, the Parish Council wanted to compile a list of volunteers such as farmers, people with 4 x 4 vehicles and residents that are willing and able to help in the Metheringham Community.

Unfortunately we only had one person who came forward to offer their help. I know many people did help with clearing roads, footpaths and assisting their neighbours. With the possibility of another spell of inclement weather, we are hoping that the initiative will assist with the clearing of snow and ice from footpaths and collecting shopping for the less able.
Anyone who would like to donate funds or services to this volunteer initiative please contact Ms Sharon Wetherall (clerk)
