Metheringham Pool Update Summer 2012

Metheringham Swimming Pool

Following feedback from residents, some old and some new to the village, it has come to light that most people believe that the school owns, runs and maintains the pool. This is not the case and because of this and previous bad management, the pool needs a new approach to its future.

A new executive committee has been formed with fresh people who are looking at new ways to run and promote the pool to new and old residents. In the last few years, the pool has struggled financially so we are introducing a new timetable that we hope will be more cost effective; enable better poolside facilities including a tuck shop and also a few image changes. We already have an excellent party hire package including the use of a BBQ, inflatables and lifeguard and in the future we also hope to introduce additional extras such as a bouncy castle and the pavilion party room!

The pool is currently being maintained by a Pool Management Company and they are currently getting the pool ready for our 2012 opening. Once open they will take on the upkeep of the chemicals and monitor water condition. Currently the pool is on schedule to open late May when we will have a grand opening event. The committee recognise that the pool cannot rely only on gate fees and that fundraising and donations are vital for the pool to remain open. With this in mind, we will have a stall at the Jubilee celebrations, a fashion show planned for June and BBQ at the FOMS fair in July. We will continue with our Thursday evening swimming lessons and the school will have use of the pool again as part of their curriculum.

The new committee will be on the stall at the Jubilee celebrations and we hope that you will all come and see us for a timetable, register for Thursday swimming lessons and to enquire about party hire or telephone (01526 323719/07900 915191).

Recently the Parish council have held meetings and many volunteers have come forward to help and support the pool and on behalf of the new committee we want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for your support.

The pool will also advertise events and opening hours via the MACLA website, facebook and its own website so please stay in touch and we hope that you will support your community pool.
