Metheringham Senior Citizens Welfare Update Summer 2012

This years Senior Citizens Party was held in the Village Hall on Saturday 14 April with 96 people attending. Our Chairman, Dennis Bowler, welcomed everyone and when everyone seated with a glass of sherry he asked them to be upstanding for a toast to Her Majesty the Queen for her Diamond Jubilee Year. Tea was then served by Lynne, Maggie and Sue and what an excellent job they did. This was followed by entertainment from the Wesley singers, with Colin Porter in charge. During the interval presentations of baskets of flowers were made to Mabel Lewis who had resigned from the Committee during the year and also to Sheila Kettleborough. Luckily Mabel still attends regularly for a chat and a coffee. In the early years Sheila came to help with her mother Mrs Fox who was one of our original helpers over 40 years ago. Sheila was also presented with a scarf and a framed certificate for her invaluable help over 30 years. All the lovely baskets and table decorations were made by Doreen Blackband, helped by Cathie Holroyd. During the event the table decorations were presents to Mr and Mrs Bill Chambers; Mr & Mrs John Rose; Mr Amery, (whose wife sadly could not be present); Mr & Mrs D Harvey (on their recent Golden Wedding), Mr & Mrs J Sayers (on their recent Diamond Wedding), Mrs Wakefield (who was 92) and Mrs J Blundell (on her 80th birthday). Displays were also taken later to Mrs C King, Mrs J Sellars, Mrs M White, Mr & Mrs D Bell and Mrs E Leeks. A raffle, which raised £155.00 was held and thank you to everyone for the wonderful prizes.

Many thanks to the Committee and helpers with cars, sherry, tables and anything else which I might have forgotten. We could not do this without you all.

Our AGM will be held in the Chapel on Monday 21 May at 10.00 am.

Our first outing will be to Doncaster on Tuesday 26 June, leaving at 9.00 am. Pam Woolley will be taking names shortly
