Metheringham Station Car Park Charges

It is approximately 12 months since the resurfacing and improvements were made to the station car park. Lincolnshire County Council invested £200,000 in the project and worked in partnership with East Midlands Trains to bring about better parking facilities for train passengers.

It was a huge shock to learn that East Midlands Trains were planning to introduce parking charges at the Station without having any dialogue with the County Council or Parish Council. On hearing this news I asked Chris Briggs (Head of Transportation at the County Council) to write to East Midlands Trains to say how concerned we were at the introduction of charges and explained that people using the train would park on the neighbouring residential roads impacting on residents living adjacent to the station.

I am very pleased to advise that following our complaint, East Midlands Trains have recognised that there are grave concerns with regards to the appropriateness of introducing charges so soon after completing the improvements and they have agreed to suspend their plans for 6 months and to re evaluate their plans and assess the impact that introducing charges would have on parking on neighbouring residential roads.

We do therefore need to gather evidence to present to East Midlands Trains on how unacceptable parking charges are at the Station and I would ask you to write to me with your views.
