Nocton Club News Summer 2012

Thought I'd update folks on the activities of Nocton Club following on from our very successful New Year's event. The Committee have been working hard on devising events for the rest of the year, which we hope you will enjoy. The Club itself has benefitted from redecoration and a new carpet, making it a convivial place to meet with friends and enjoy a drink. Membership continues to rise, which is hardly surprising as membership fees are a nominal £5.00 for adult membership, £2.00 for junior membership and £1.00 for OAP membership. Yearly subscription runs from Oct to Sep each year.

Our 3rd annual Beer Fest, celebrating St George's Day, was held over the weekend of 20 - 22 April. This event proved to be a roaring success, with everyone enjoying the 5 real ales and 1 cider, alongside the well stocked Club bar. Entertainment was supplied by Frixion, a 4 piece rock cover band who were absolutely superb (so much so that we have invited them back for our NY bash - watch out for advertising later in the year.....), with supper in the form of a substantial Ploughmans' being provided by the Committee. All of this for a fiver! A few brave souls from the Committee turned up on the rather inclement Sunday morning to erect the gazebo and get the BBQ sizzling. A big THANK YOU! goes to everyone who played their part in making the weekend such an entertaining event.

Looking ahead, our next proposed event is the 50/50 Auction on Sun 24 June. More details will be appearing in the June edition of the Doodle, along with a registration form. This is your chance to sell on your unwanted items or to gain something new at a fraction of its value. Please note: children and animals will not be accepted, however cute!

Sun 19 August will see our 2nd Dog Show. "Scrufts" which was held for the first time last year will have similar 'fun' classes along with some more serious activities. We had an eager flurry of entrants last year and hope to expand on this. Food in the form of a BBQ will be available to all.

Calling all you vegetable growers and cake makers! Last year's Produce Show was an excellent event, with a stunning 104 entries of produce, flowers, cakes and jams being put in. Much of the produce was auctioned off, proceeds of which were given to charity. On Sun 2 September we will be holding the 3rd Annual Produce Show, but if you have any ideas for vegetables etc that you would like to see included, please get in touch with a Committee member. Once all ideas are formulated we will issue this year's registration form.

The "Rocky Horror Show" will be showing on Sat 27 October - dressing up is a must! More details to follow - watch out for advertising.

Children in Need is on Friday 16 November and we would like to get families involved in this event. We will be arranging a 'Generation Game' style event, and for those of you who remember Brucie in this role, it will be 'Nice to see you, to see you nice!'

Updates on what we're doing will follow throughout the year. Nocton Club welcomes new members, offering real ale, full bar, jukebox, gaming machine and pool table. Children under the age of 14 are welcome in the Members Lounge (accompanied). However on Sunday they are allowed into the main bar (accompanied).

Come along and see us - a warm welcome awaits!!
