In 2007 we had a very energetic fundraising season. A great team of helpers worked tirelessly to achieve some outstanding results. This year, with the monies raised and donations received we were able to redecorate the main hall area. We hope you like it!
We now have a new notice board on the Fen Road wall to enable you to see what activities are on in your Village Hall.
Through generous grant funding we have now completed the cavity wall insulation and replaced the remaining windows with double glazed units.
Thank you for your continued support at all our fundraising events.
Following a most successful and happy visit from our friends from Trange in April we have allowed the ducks to race again on the beck at Dunston. This year saw a range of races / prizes with a winners race and trophy won by Chloe from Metheringham.
Our next event is a Hog Roast with family entertainment on Saturday 20 September, Dunston Village Hall, 5 pm. Tickets are available from Ralph Timms 01526 322515 or Beth McLuckie 05126 321919 or any member of the Twinning Association.

The club held their Annual General Meeting on 14 May followed by a quiz and a demonstration of new equipment by a representative from South Lincs Blind Society.
On 28 May Rachel Shaw from the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust had members enraptured with her talk on the various nature reserves and parks within Lincolnshire.
On 14 June, the club decided to have an open evening meeting in St John's Church, Washingborough. It was a wonderful night as members were entertained by the Lincoln Barber's Shop Harmony Club and Eileen Smith, who played the church organ before the concert and during the interval. We would like to thank everyone outside the club who joined us. We know you enjoyed yourselves because you asked us if we would be doing it again next year.
On 25 June, members enjoyed an afternoon of laughter as Loretta Rivett entertained everyone in the Lincolnshire dialect.
On 9 July, Ray Howard from Dunston entertained the members with tales on village policing.
On 23 July everyone enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Turks Head.

After a fairly quiet time we are about to get back into a full programme of events for the Autumn and Winter.
The Pantomime this year is Arthur Pendragon and the Sword of Destiny, written and directed by Ingrid Burns. Performances will be held on 30/31 January 2009 and 6/7 February 2009. Auditions for the Panto are being held a bit earlier than usual so that we can start rehearsals promptly in October. The date for auditions will be 28 September from 2.00pm in Dunston Village Hall (please note different venue) with rehearsals on Sunday afternoons starting 12 October.
Early in December we have planned an exciting 'starlight' production which is based on the Nativity. Please watch out for local publicity nearer the time.
Our choir has usually met on a regular basis to learn new music and arrangements and to build up a repertoire. We have gone from strength to strength over the past couple of years, singing at the Fayre and Feast, in Pantomimes, plays and reviews, to name but a few. The choir numbers between 18 and 25 both male and female, and would welcome any new members, especially male.
We do however have a serious problem at the moment because we have no regular pianist or Musical Director. If you are willing to rise to the challenge and guide this enthusiastic group of singers, then please contact Jill Corah 01526 340045 or Gaynor Little 01526 320599. The summer is drawing to a close and now we are preparing to commence the monthly meetings in the Village Hall.
The June Coffee Morning raised £476.59 - many thanks to all who donated goods and supported us at this event. The number of sweets in the tin was 97, Mary Dealtry was the nearest guess with 130. The name of the Bear was Boo-Boo, won by L. Dealtry.
We have had a successful Summer of outings with visits to Louth and Garden Centre, a mystery trip around Derbyshire, Wisbech Flower Festival and Eden Camp. The last outing is to our old friend and favourite, Skegness, on 10 September.
The holiday this year is to Eastbourne in September. At the time of writing there are just two places remaining so if you are interested in going, contact Margaret (321049) as soon as possible.
November will see us holding our Coffee Morning in the Village Hall, which anyone is welcome to attend. There will be an array of stalls, so drop in for coffee and mince pies. You may even find a Christmas present or two!!
We welcome visitors to our meeting (£2.00 per visit). For this you get an evening's entertainment with tea/coffee and biscuits during the interval.
The Christmas Dinner in December is a members only meeting. Sorry no visitors as space is limited (see back of membership card for more details)

Friends of Dunston St Peter's Primary School
The Summer term has been an excellent end to the school year for all at Dunston St Peter's. The Friends of the School have had several successful events, including the Summer Fayre, which was incredibly well supported by the families of the school, and also the people of our community. Thanks to everyone who came to support us.
The highlight of the Summer term for us all was the fantastic news about the results of the school's recent OFSTED inspection. The school was given an overall rating of "Outstanding", placing it in the top 5% of schools nationally. As parents of the school, we were thrilled and pass on our sincere congratulations to all the staff and children of the school.
On 6th October we will hold our AGM, in school at 7pm and we hope to welcome some new Friends of the School. All parents of children from St Peter's are welcome at any meetings, the more the merrier!
We are organising a Family Fun Evening in Dunston village hall, 15th November. Come and join us for an evening of food, games and entertainment for all ages. Contact number below for further details.

MADSPA Calendar dates
The Children's Badge Night for those who had lessons was on Friday 5 September.
Sunday 14 September (the date scheduled for the closing of the Pool for Winter) will see the holding of the "Beach Party" - (2.00 - 6.00 pm) Entry is £2.00. BBQ food, drinks and sweets will be on sale.
On Friday 24 October the "Hallowe'en Disco and Badge" Presentation will be held in the School Hall ( 6.00 - 9.00 pm) Entry £2.00. Sweets and drinks will be on sale. All children from the local schools are welcome.
On Friday 21 November a "Slave Auction" and the "Selling of Favours" will be held in the Village Hall (from 7.30pm) - Tickets £5.00 including Supper.
On Saturday 18 October the Fayre and Feast, please visit our "WWI - Soup Kitchen" and buy a raffle ticket.
In closing may I say a big thank you to those who have supported the Swimming Pool in what has been a very difficult season. We are very grateful. Please, please support us over the coming months as fund-raising is a major part of our ability to provide Metheringham with this super facility which can now only be found in a few Lincolnshire villages.

At the time of writing I am happy to report that we have had a fairly good season. Despite the adverse weather conditions we have managed to fulfil most of our fixtures.
Our "A" team is currently lying third in the Lincoln & District Premier League, and our "B" team is at the top of Division 4 with a game in hand (promotion hopes are high). Because we did not play in the EBA ASC Metals League last year, when we re-entered this year, we were placed in Division 2 - but we are also hopeful of promotion to the First Division because currently we have played 12 matches and won 12 - top of the league! In the other EBA league we are 3rd in Division 1 with two games in hand, but still a lot of points away from the league leaders, Moorland Railway. Having gained promotion from Division 3 in the Cliff League last year, we are now lying 2nd in Division 2 - could this be the sort of leap up the league tables that Lincoln City Football Club can only dream about?
Martin Cricket Club, on their return to the top flight of local cricket, did not get off to a very good start, seeing two games rained off, (including the much awaiting local derby with Blankney) and three lost (against the top three sides Cherry Willingham, Scothern and Morton). They did however make progress in the Village Trophy, beating local rivals Blankney by four wickets in the quarter final, before going out to the eventual winners Cherry Willingham in the semi final.
Since then the team has slowly climbed to the top half of the table, picking up wins over North Scarle, Lindum, Market Rasen, Morton and Blankney. The victory over Market Rasen was by the biggest winning margin (205 runs) in the Leagues (to date) as they made 305-3 with Dave Newman and Dave Gollop putting on 190 for the second wicket. The visitors were then bowled out for just 98.
Despite several new players joining the club Dave Newman is again the leading batsman and has scored around 500 runs at an average of nearly 50. His top score of 148 is presently the second highest score in the league. In ten innings he has made three fifties and one century. On the bowling front, Simon Gollop leads the way having picked up 14 wickets (average 16.5). In the field, new signing Ryan Simpkins has taken six catches while Tom Harrision is the league's third highest placed wicket keeper with ten victims.
Going into the last few games of this season Nocton Cricket Club do not look as if they will emulate the season they had in 2007 when they finished sixth. They are presently eighth and of their remaining games they have at least two against sides near the top. The club saw an early exit from the Major Hoult Cup against Bardney but then two wins were secured from the first four games with a third rained off. One of these wins saw the team hit its highest total of the season. When chasing a target of 169 set by their visitors Owmby they made 172, losing only five wickets on the way with Dave Franklin making 64, the side's highest individual score of this year. Since this win, eight games have been played, with only one win, when beating Lincoln side Rustons by 70 runs (they did only have 7 players though!). Their last game saw them reach the low of the season, being bowled out for just 39 against Aswarby. At the moment, as usual, Dave Franklin leads the run-makers with nearly 200 runs to his name at an average of almost 20. As wicket-keeper he has also picked up five victims to date. On the bowling front it is a close call between Bruce Donald and David Glew. Bruce has got 13 wickets (average 21.0) while David has 10 (average 19.6). On the fielding front Simon Bates has taken the most catches (four).
On Saturday 21 June Metheringham Fire Station held an Open Day for members of Metheringham Parish Council and former serving members of Metheringham Fire Station. The event was to enable viewing of the new fire appliance along with the latest fire fighting equipment that is available for use in our community. This investment demonstrates the commitment to modernisation of the service from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service for the people of Metheringham and the surrounding area.
The Reverend Charles Sowden conducted a Service with a special blessing for the new appliance and its crew. Former serving members who attended the event included Jack Morris who served with Kesteven and Lindsey Fire Service through to Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue; Dick Barker who also served with Kesteven and Lindsey and Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue; Bob Love, Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue and Ray Harrison, who served with Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue. It was nice to see them and their partners on the day, and it gave us all the opportunity to reflect on and discuss the massive changes that have taken place over the years within Metheringham Fire Station. Thanks to all the ex-firefighters and also to the Parish Councillors who attended and helped to make the event a memorable occasion.
On Monday 18 August Metheringham Animal Welfare Supporters group held their AGM in the Scarf and Goggles at Metheringham. This was when all the hard work comes together with the presentation of the cheques to the animal charities. Chairperson, Yvonne Denman welcomed everyone, thanking them for their support over another busy year. Condolences were expressed to Donna Baumber and her family on the sad loss of her father Joe. Vice chairperson Ann Heading swapped her "hat" for a moment and read out the accounts on behalf of Donna. The total monies raised was £5,372.31 which meant £1,337.00 went to each of the four chosen charities. £21.00 went toward our insurance and the remainder into the bank. Well done everyone!
The Secretary / co-ordinator Joyce Muncey reported on a very difficult year with none of the volunteers getting any younger or fitter. Many have not been able to work the hours they used to do. We are short staffed most of the time. To cut a long story short, MAWS must change track and update the event and move with the times to make things easier. So in 2009 the MAWS backbone will be: Table-Top Car / Boot Sales on Saturdays' 4 April, 6 June, 1 August and 3 October. "M/F" 1 to 14 June incl. Saturday 14 November - Christmas Market 2009. Other events will be added to these after all the market research papers come in. Then we can see what the people want and what they think is missing from the village.
Cheque presentation to the Charities: Bunny Heaven - Coleby; Marion's Animal Lodge - Lincoln, Keith's Rescue Dogs - Skegness. Not able to attend were Cats in Need - Sleaford. All expressed their sincere thanks. In some cases the cheque had made it possible to continue their work.
After a short break and photo shoots for the charities the meeting continued with the nominations being read out and all committee members re-elected unopposed. Two extra members were voted in, namely Lorretta and Ray Hammond. Donna Baumber did not stand at this time. Voting sheets were collected and the count began. (All members vote from their second AGM). With each member having four votes and 19 charities to choose from, it is great fun. Ann Heading read out the votes as Hayley Bryan recorded them on a board for all to see. The winners were:- (

and sharing 3rd place, Northcote Heavy Horse - Near Spilsby and Lincs and Lincoln Retired Greyhound Trust.
All profits raised by MAWS from now until the next AGM in August 2009 will be shared between these four charities. Yvonne expressed everyone's thanks to Pippa and Mark for allowing the AGM to be held at the Scarf and Goggles. The meeting then closed with the raffle.

The monthly meetings are held in the Village Hall on the 3rd Wednesday of every month - 7.15 pm There are refreshments, a raffle and competitions relevant to the speaker's topic. These meetings are well attended; new members and visitors are always welcome.
The June meeting was a musical one. St Wulfram's Hand-bell Ringers entertained and soothed with arrangements of well-known classical, folk and popular melodies.
In July there was the visit to Castle Howard. The house will be remembered for the TV series, Brideshead Revisited, soon to be made into a film. The rooms, art, gardens, shops and its history all contributed to a varied, interesting day.
The August and September meetings are "Dance of different kinds" - August - a demonstration of Belly Dancing by Margaret Rushwatch - September the Bourne Borders Morris Dancers. This meeting is open to all, so bring your dancing shoes.
October is a members' craft evening.
November - a talk about Dolls' Houses and dolls' Furniture.
The year concludes with a Social in December.
The entry into WI Co-operative Cup Competition at the Lincolnshire Show came a very creditable 6 out of 24.
Entries have already been made for the Make, Bake and Show Competition to be held in Great Hale on Saturday 4 October. The click of knitting needles reverberating throughout the village as 474+ hats were knitted for "Save the Children."
By courtesy of Jean and David Simpson, 26 Drury Street - Monday 18 August, there was an afternoon of fairly gentle, uncompetitive sports (our Mini Olympics - an alternative to Beijing) - Boules, Javelin Darts, Mini Tennis, Table Games and Mental Agility Test, a quiz plus plenty of refreshments for energy.
Other activities have been theatre visits, 10-pin Bowling and a variety of sports activities- golf, table tennis and darts. We now look forward to a busy autumn.

On 30th April 1994 Scopwick and Kirkby Green were officially twinned with the French village of Sceaux-sur-Huisne.
The exchange visits, alternating between France and England each year, have become a popular annual event for many local families.
SCEAUX-SUR-HUISNE Is a small picturesque village situated near Le Mans in the Sarthe region of France. It has two restaurants, a primary school, a library, a recently renovated Town Hall and a 12th Century Church. The village dates back to Roman times, known as a staging post and relaxation place. The remains of thermal baths and a well-preserved washhouse can still be seen.
What is twinning all about?
It creates opportunities for you and your family to make new friends here and in your twin village.
It helps to develop community spirit in your own village and provide a wider framework for sporting, cultural and social activities.
It gives you a second community where you are always welcome and 'at home'.
Funds for activities are raised through voluntary efforts in the village with at least three major fund-raising events held per annum. This year we have a Safari Supper, Cuban Band and wine tasting evening. Other social events, such as barbeques and bike rides, provide family fun, entertainment for everyone and a chance to continue the spirit of Twinning throughout the year.

It is now almost a year since the Silver Sounds Band moved to this area and the number of new learners is gradually increasing, whilst the Band itself continues to improve. During the past few months the Band has performed at a variety of local events including the Dunston Duck Race, Metheringham FC Fun Day and St Wilfrid's Church Fete.
The highlight of the Summer schedule was the Band's appearance at the RAF Waddington Air Show in July. The players gave two 45 minute performances at the prestigious event and were the only training band invited to participate. They played magnificently and were extremely well received by the packed audience. The next event for the Band is a local wedding, another first for them and one that they are very much looking forward to.
The Band recently held their AGM which was followed by the presentation of awards to Band members.

The Band is always welcoming of new members; whether you already play a brass instrument or would like to learn, we would love to hear from you. It only costs £12/quarter to join (less than £1/week!), and you will receive tuition if required, the loan of an instrument and music, as well as the opportunity to learn new skills and to become a member of a fantastic local music-making activity.

Blankney Cricket Club continue to run four sides with two in mid-week and Saturday and Sunday XIs. In their second season in the South Lincs & Borders League the team were in the newly formed Division Three. For several weeks they were top having won the opening four games before losing their first game, going down on the last ball of the game at home to Grantham. Since then the team has seen four games called off and three lost which sees the side in sixth place. Two players, Simon Behan and Lee Allman proved successful with the bat with Simon having an average of 78 and Lee 52. On the bowling front skipper Ian Holvey and Phil Woodcock are the key wicket takers with ten each. Ian's average being 13.9 and Phil's 5.50. In the field Lee Allman is the leading catcher taking eight while Andy Foster has claimed five victims behind the wicket.
The girls continue to be busy training twice weekly for the United Baton Twirlers Competition in October where 7 teams from around the country will be participating. A number of girls are now 16 years old and this has enabled our trainer Cathy to put together a larger senior team. This year nine girls will be dancing in the senior baton and senior flag teams. This number of participants in the team enables greater scope to develop the complexity of the routines.
However, this will be the first time many of the girls have danced in the senior section and they will be in competition against very experienced baton twirlers. Some girls will also continue to dance in the junior and juvenile sections, taking part in up to 12 routines in total. What a brilliant way to keep fit. I am sure you would like to join with us and wish all 'The Angels' Good Luck in October.
Although our present Angels Team of 25 girls continues to move from strength to strength, we welcome new members. From November we will run a 'skills' night each Thursday for new members, to up-skill in readiness for dancing with the squad. On a slightly different, but very happy note, all from Angels Dance Squad would like to wish Cathy and Pete all the very best with their new baby due late September. I am sure there will be plenty of very willing 'child minders' at the October Competition.

Another season is now underway for our local football team which will be running sides from 6's right up to 18's plus three senior sides (One Saturdays, two Sundays). The club is one of the oldest in the county going back 125 years, with mention of it in the Lincolnshire Chronicle of 1884 - (photographs of some of the teams going back at least 100 years can be viewed on the village website at www.macla.co.uk).
It seems like some of the committee have been in post for almost that long (joking!). The Treasurer Roger Dawson is the longest serving member, having held his position since quill pens were used (again only joking). Roger has been the club's financial figure for over 40 years going back to 1967 but was a committee member in 1964. Chairman, John Wood has been at the Club's helm since 1990 and is now in his 18th year while Secretary Pete Ford has held most positions in the club going back to 1964 when he joined the club as a 15 year old from Blankney Estate FC. He briefly held the Treasurer's job in 1966 before Roger took over and is now going into his 20th year as club secretary, having taken post in March 1989. Another long standing member is his father Cyril, the present Club President, who has been the club figurehead for 7 years. He too has held numerous positions including being part of the management team for the Saturday 1st XI (as far back as 1964), also being one of those instrumental in starting the Sunday XI in 1965 when the club took over the fixtures of Heighington (who withdrew their team from the leagues prior to the season commencing), as well as Club Chairman from 1976 to 1990. Along with another long serving member, Brian Blackband, these two senior citizens (accumulative age of 161) have maintained the club pitches (including collecting the endless rubbish and clearing the dog dirt left by the irresponsible) for too many years to remember. This work has been done in all weather without payment and they are sincerely thanked for their efforts.
Thanks too have to go out to other senior citizens, including our ladies, Doreen Blackband, Joan Gray and Brenda Mickleburgh (the latter two, since their husbands played for the club back in the 50/60's) who have been instrumental in providing much needed funds by Bingo Sessions, which have been held for over 40 years. Sadly a serious lack of numbers, initially caused by the smoking ban, along with rising costs has made it such, that it is virtually now non-profit making. In the light of this it is anticipated, once our "snowballs" are won, it will come to a sad end. We do thank all who have supported us over the last 40 years.
In around 5 years time Sunday football will have been a part of the local scene for 50 years. From the acorn sowed in 1965 when there was just one side the scene on a Sunday now is one of total activity on the sports fields most weekends from the end of August to the start of May. The dedication of club members, players, parents, guardians, sponsors and supporters is something to be proud of and we would place on record sincere thanks to one and all.
