Events: June 2007 Archives
On Sat 19th May an equally important match, other than the cup final at the New Wembley, took place at Metheringham. It was a game between a Metheringham Select XI and a Dunston Red Lion Select XI. The rivalry between the two clubs has risen over recent season as the Red Lion has grown in status and it was decided to have an annual Charity Match on Cup Final day as a curtain raiser to the FA Cup final.
Afterward all the players went back to the Star and Garter for a few pints and some grub and to watch the cup final. Metheringham won the inaugural game 3-1 with goals from Under 18's Manager / Player-Manager Dave Atkin, Sun "A" team Manager Simon Farrar and U14's management member A. Stevenson - Dunston's consolation goals came from Tom Ison.
See here for more pictures of the day.
