The Village Hall was bustling on Saturday 30th August as nearly 200 lots went under the hammer. Lots included everything from TVs and Bicycles to crockery and door stops. A swinging garden seat and walking machine proved popular with the waiting audience and the final amount raised was almost £650 which will go towards the current hall improvements project involving solar panels and CCTV. The Committee would especially like to thank John Duggins for recovering in time to be auctioneer and to all those who helped with carrying, running and co-ordinating during the event and to the kitchen staff whose bacon rolls and jam scones proved very popular.

The Star and Garter Vegetable and Produce Show 2008 was held on Monday 1st September and was widely supported with good entries for all classes and very generous contributions in the auction and the purchase of raffle tickets. The total amount raised this year was £614.80 which has been given to Metheringham and District Swimming Pool Association who hope to use it to buy new covers for the pool.

FAYRE & FEAST HELP!

To comply with safety regulations Stewards and helpers are desperately needed for the
Fayre & Feast on Saturday 18 October.

Should these not be forthcoming there is grave danger that the event will be like so many other events and lost to time (this year's Spalding Flower Parade knows all about this situation). If you are willing to ensure YOUR Fayre & Feast takes place and can help, please call 0800 6343307 or e-mail clerk@metheringham.org.uk

Metheringham Village Hall Autumn 2008

In 2007 we had a very energetic fundraising season. A great team of helpers worked tirelessly to achieve some outstanding results. This year, with the monies raised and donations received we were able to redecorate the main hall area. We hope you like it!

We now have a new notice board on the Fen Road wall to enable you to see what activities are on in your Village Hall.

Through generous grant funding we have now completed the cavity wall insulation and replaced the remaining windows with double glazed units.

Thank you for your continued support at all our fundraising events.

The marathon follows the wonderful and intriguing, newly created Spires & Steeples Arts and Heritage Trail through Lincolnshire.

Starting in Lincoln, you can walk or run the full 26 miles to Sleaford, or complete half the route which leads you to the village of Metheringham. A four mile all ability route that runs from Beech House, Waterside South in Lincoln to Washingborough and back is also available to choose.
The participants will raise money for the Wheel Appeal charity. Wheel Appeal aims to raise enough money to purchase 2,012 sports wheelchairs in time for the 2012 Paralympics.
The Spires & Steeples Arts and Heritage Trail includes beautiful art works designed and made by local people.

Spires & Steeples takes in the beauty of the Lincolnshire landscape from fen land to heaths, via picturesque woodlands and flowing streams as it winds its ways from village to village and church to church.

You can find out about local history along the way, visit quaint country pubs and walk through a variety of enchanting landscapes.

ASERE In Concert 31 October 2008

Groundbreaking Cuban band Asere is a group of young musicians who came together to play traditional Cuban son (roots of salsa). Their career took off when, on visiting Cuba in 1996, the Colombian singer Totó la Momposina came across this new band and was immediately struck by their energy, rich songwriting and powerful delivery. Soon after, Asere recorded their debut album 'Cuban Soul' live in an old radio theatre in Habana.

Asere's superb interpretation of Cuba's musical traditions has produced a creative repertoire that's both deeply respectful of their Cuban heritage but also has an exciting contemporary edge of its own, blessed by inventive songwriting and a soulful groove, building fresh sound for a new generation. Since 1998, Asere have performed constantly across Europe (including more than 100 shows in the UK) wowing audiences with their dynamic show and infectious energy.
The band performs playing an exciting range of instruments including bongos, congas, cajón cowbell, timbale, claves, maracas AND MORE!

So come and dance to the rhythms of son or just listen to the formidable skills of these world-class musicians.
