Metheringham Annual Village Meeting - 29 Apr 08

The Metheringham Parish Council pages have been reorganised in order to make them easier to read. As part of the housekeeping, a map has been included showing the Metheringham Parish Boundary.
The boundary overlay has been manually encoded using the Google Maps API and may contain some minors errors around the edges.
Annual Village Meeting 2008 - The 2008 Annual Village meeting will take place on Tuesday 29 April starting at 7.00pm in the Village Hall. This is not a formal Parish Council meeting, it is a meeting for the people of Metheringham to present to each other details of their organizations and how things have progressed during the year. This year's topic is "GOING GREEN", and the programme will include subjects on RECYCLING, how to SAVE ENERGY and MONEY in your home. With ever increasing utility bills, why not come along to find out how you can save money. If you have any suggestions or comments regarding the Annual Village Meeting please contact me.

From the Chairman
Playing Fields
Over a number of years the village has acquired almost eleven acres of superb playing fields for recreational and sporting activities. Some, like the Star and Garter field, was obtained after tremendous fund raising by the village. Other areas were bought by the Parish Council. However, by far, the largest section was acquired through a gift of land in 1927 and 1928 by Lord Londesborough. By all accounts this provided a much needed recreation area for the village but much of the land was little more than rough pasture. A condition of the gift was that the land would remain a recreation area in perpetuity. However, in the 1960’s, plans were being developed to expand the village. Permission was given to sell the “Rec” as it was known, provided new recreational areas were obtained. So started an ongoing need to provide recreational facilities for the village.

Minutes 04/2007 of Metheringham Parish Council Meeting held on Tuesday 28th August 2007 at 7.15pm in the Village Hall.
The Parish Council have a number of ongoing issues at the present time and it would be premature to discuss these in detail until further developments have taken place.
One issue we are pleased to report is the overwhelming success of our survey on the Cross. There were around 600 replies and we are very grateful to everyone who took the trouble to respond. In addition to answers to the questions there were many comments and we are still very busy reviewing everyone's response. One thing is very clear there was very little support for removing the Cross, SO THE CROSS REMAINS, which will mean little if any changes to the road layout. There was considerable support for changing the pillar of the Cross and present proposals are to go back to the Pre-war design.
A full analysis of the results will be available in time for the next edition of the magazine.
We are still discussing land issues with the County Council and await their response to proposals made by the Parish Council. This would require changes to the current 'chance to share field' and the 'Star and Garter field' but these will only go ahead if we can protect the interests of the Village.
We have now co-opted a new Councillor and with the Council back up to full strength look forward to moving forward with our long list of outstanding action items.
Dr Mike Allen
(Chairman)

Dog mess is a real problem for everyone. Don't let your dog be part of the problem.

Metheringham PC has appointed a new team of Dog Wardens. They'll soon be roving the village seeking out owners who allow their dogs to mess in public places. They are empowered to fine you. You have been warned.
Update: 28 July 07
Be advised that the Dog wardens are exercising "ZERO" tolerance and someone has already been issued with a fine for allowing their dog to "poop" on Lincoln Road.
As part of a scheme to improve the Village centre it has been suggested that we remove the village cross and improve the road layout.
Some people have expressed the view that the Cross is a historical monument and must stay at all cost.
Remove it! Keep it! Move it!.
The Parish Council would like to hear your views. Complete the form on this page to make your views heard.
