'Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth and danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings...'are the first two lines from High Flight, a famous inspirational aviator's poem written by JG Magee.
JG Magee was a spiftire pilot in WW2 who was tragically killed in a training accident in 1941 and is buried at Scopwick. He wrote High Flight when he was only 19.
The Scopwick page about JG Magee has been completely updated following receipt of a document from his brother, the Rev. Hugh Magee.
